An early morning fire near Erin, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, has claimed the lives of six draft horses and completely destroyed their barn along with equipment. Wellington OPP report that a mare, a foal, and four yearlings perished in the blaze, and the barn was completely destroyed.

At approximately 2:30 am on June 13, Wellington County OPP and fire crews were called to the Wellington Road farm north of the village of Erin. Erin Fire and Rescue responded with tanker support from Guelph-Eramosa. They found the structure completely engulfed in flames. No one was injured in the fire, which caused losses estimated at $1 million. 

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Erin Fire and Rescue, and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified.
