Cabral, affectionately known as “JP”, the horse ridden by Rio Paralympic Games Grade II medallist Natasha Baker of Great Britain, has been put down. The 2001 dark bay Polish-bred gelding sustained a small cut while grazing in his field on February 22, 2017 at Baker’s parent’s farm, and subsequently developed a bacterial infection. Despite being monitored closely by a veterinarian, the horse contracted clostridia bacterial infection which proved fatal, and the horse was put down on February 26, 2017.

Riding Cabral, Baker captured five European Championship gold medals, a gold and silver World Championship medal, and five Paralympic gold medals. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, they set two Paralympic records in the individual championship and individual freestyle grade II tests.
