COCHRANE, AB (December 3, 2025) — The Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada (HWAC) and the Horse Rescue Fund (HRF) are pleased to announce a new initiative through which HWAC will support and help amplify the work of the Horse Rescue Fund as it expands emergency aid for horse owners, reputable rescues, and equine caregivers across Canada.
Horse owners and caregivers are known for their dedication and passion. Caring for horses is a way of life for thousands of Canadians — yet unexpected circumstances such as catastrophic accidents, wildfire or weather-related emergencies, injury, or sudden financial hardship can create urgent situations where help is needed.
About the Horse Rescue Fund
Founded in 2023, the HRF is a Canada-wide, fully registered not-for-profit foundation dedicated to helping horses in need. The organization provides one-time financial grants not only during large-scale disasters, but also to reputable rescues, sanctuaries, and individual horse owners facing unforeseen hardship.
Support may include emergency feed, temporary shelter, veterinary care, transportation assistance, and other critical resources that ensure horses receive proper care and are not placed at risk.
Since its creation, the HRF has become a vital safety net — stepping in when no other financial support exists, and helping keep horses safe, healthy, and in loving homes.
About Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada
Founded in 2008, HWAC is recognized nationally for championing responsible horse care and science-based education. With its strong professional network and its commitment to evidence-based equine welfare, HWAC plays a central role in connecting communities, veterinarians, industry partners, and policymakers to improve equine well-being across Canada.
Moving Forward Together
Through this new support initiative, HWAC will help raise awareness of the HRF’s programs and expand its visibility so that more Canadians know help is available when they need it most.
“We are grateful for HWAC’s support in ensuring people across the country know that emergency assistance exists. Our goal is simple: to make sure no horse is left without care, whether the need is created by disaster, emergency, or unexpected personal hardship.” — HRF statement.
Individuals facing emergencies can apply for financial aid, and supporters across Canada are invited to contribute to help provide life-saving assistance.
