Three Horses Lost in BC Trailer Accident En Route to National Dressage Championships

Equestrian Canada and Thunderbird Show Park are mourning the loss of three horses following a vehicle accident involving members of the equestrian community travelling from Manitoba and Alberta to the EC National Dressage and Para Dressage Championships (West) in Langley, BC. A fourth horse was transported for veterinary treatment.

Canada Competes at Working Equitation World Championships

In August 2026, four Canadian team riders and one alternate travelled to Europe to represent Working Equitation Canada at the 2026 Working Equitation (WE) World Championships in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain from September 8 to 13. It was the first time that Canadian riders had participated in the WE World Championships, which is hosted every four years by the World Association of Working Equitation (WAWE). Four of the five riders were riding leased horses.

Century Casinos Agrees to Sell Two Alberta Racetracks to Highfield

Century Casinos has agreed to sell the racing and gaming operations of Century Mile Racetrack and Casino in Edmonton and Century Downs Racetrack and Casino near Calgary to Highfield Investment Group for approximately $23.2 million CAD. Century Casinos owns all of Century Mile and holds a 75 percent interest in Century Downs.

Highfield already has ties to the horse racing industry. Its Highfield Stock Farm, near Okotoks, Alberta, breeds and raises Thoroughbreds for racing and also operates a racing stable.
