In the US military base Camp Al-Taqaddum in the Iraqi desert, donkeys weren’t part of the paraphernalia around the runway where Purple Fox CH-46 helicopters landed and took off all day. The military camp provided logistics support for combat operations and several helicopter squadrons.

Gold medal award winning author Valerie Ormond’s Believing in Horses, Too takes thirteen-year-old Sadie Navarro to new challenges. Sadie wants more than ever to make her father proud by riding in her first show on her gelding, Lucky. Her father, Lieutenant Commander Navarro, is deployed to Afghanistan. She always fears for his safety and during the first six months of his deployment, Sadie had preoccupied herself by taking on the challenge of saving ten horses on their way to an auction and a very uncertain future.

In her absolutely delightful, witty, funny, and bare-all emotions memoir Life Without Stirrups (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform) she shares the wonders, challenges, triumphs and emotional pitfalls of equine ownership.

In The Compassionate Equestrian published by Trafalgar Square Books, veterinarian Dr. Allen Schoen and trainer Susan Gordon explore the profound values of compassion, peacefulness, and centered awareness in developing a holistic relationship with horses. Their approach is based on 25 principles that are as ancient in wisdom as they are modern in contemporary thought.

In the introduction of The Art of Liberty Training for Horses, Jonathan Field reminds us to “Let go of whatever is going on in your life and ‘be present’ in the moment with your horse.” This statement resonates because learning with and from our horses begins and ends with being fully present with them in every way.

If you’ve ever yearned for the freedom, fun, and romance of saddling up for a horse packing trip into the wilderness, grab Pack Em Up, Ride Em Out by Tania Millen and devour every word of it.

The Solo-Ride arrived in a box covered with pictorial instructions, and included a fanny pack (with lots of pockets) in which to store the Solo-Ride while riding. The Solo-Ride itself is comprised of thick nylon webbing that creates the support system, a folding stirrup that is made of lightweight aluminum, and a padded strap that can be used for additional padding either on the wither or under the leg.

dressage girths, jumping girths, Total Saddle Fit, total saddle fit girths, shoulder relief girths

Recently, Canadian Horse Journal received two Total Saddle Fit Shoulder Relief Girths to test out. The girths are available in dressage or jumping/all-purpose and are designed to allow for a full range of shoulder motion, elbow comfort, and better saddle fit. I took the jumper girth and my co-worker Emily tested the dressage girth.

The ENELL Sports Bra was designed specifically for well-endowed women who require superior support while riding or working out, without compromising on comfort. The exclusive patented design and construction – a balance of encapsulation and compression – holds breasts securely in place, minimizing damaging breast bounce during high impact activities, and the moisture management performance fabric wicks moisture away from the body for maximum comfort during intense workouts.

Leather Therapy Equestrian Wash and Restorer & Conditioner

Leather Therapy's Equestrian Wash and their Equestrian Restorer & Conditioner are a dynamic duo that work together to supple, strengthen, and protect your leather tack and gear, resulting in its increased longevity. The Equestrian Wash uses concentrated micro-suds to deep clean leather, easily lifting out embedded dirt and grime without hardening or darkening the leather. Beneficial lubricants keep leather supple and strong without leaving any build-up – no need to rinse out, just wipe off – so clean leather is left feeling wonderfully soft.
