Equestrian fashion is constantly evolving. And the latest trends were on full display during the Victoria-Saanich CADORA’s 2016 fashion show – with clothing provided by Arista Equestrian, F.O.A.L Equestrian, Greenhawk Vancouver Island, and Victoria Saddlery.

“Orange is a big colour this spring,” says Glynis Schultz, manager of Greenhawk Vancouver Island. “This year, we are once again seeing a lot more technical fabrics - and that’s a welcomed relief in the riding world, where we’ve gone from wool coats that don’t breathe, to more stretchy, breathable, athletic wear. High neck shirts with sun-blocker material are also really big this year.”

Thankfully, equestrian fashion has moved away from the traditional and neutral palettes we were accustomed to even five years ago. “The trends continue to be blingy,” says Ann Bater, owner of Victoria Saddlery. “This year, there’s definitely a lot of sparkle in the clothing. And a lot of the shirt design incorporates the sparkle, eliminating the stock-tie.”

I was excited to learn that some of the breeches available this year are not only water resistant, but stain resistant, too. How brilliant is that - especially for those days when you’re dressed in white.

The boots, adorned with rhinestones and other embellishments, caught my eye right away. “We have sparkle in the boots, and a lot of the boots are now custom made, so you can customize your pad leather, and your sparkle,” says Bater.
