Olds College offers multiple majors through their two-year Equine Science Diploma Program. The college continues to meet the needs of the horse industry by producing graduates skilled in Equine Business and Event Management, Production and Breeding Management, English and Western Horsemanship, and Equestrian Coaching.

Interviewed by Jess Hallas-Kilcoyne - A family business that has been in operation for more than three decades, JK Reid Manufacturing & Sales Ltd. based in Moorefield Ontario, offers a wide variety of livestock equipment. As cattlemen and farmers themselves, their base has always been handling and feeding systems for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and hogs, and in recent years they have expanded to service deer, elk, and bison producers, as well as zookeepers.

Career opportunities exist for horse guides, wranglers, and owner-operators through guest ranches, hourly trail rides, pack trip holidays, hunting guides, and outfitting. The job descriptions vary with the type of operation and so do the qualifications that these businesses look for in their staff. Everyone agreed that individuals who succeed in the areas of horse wrangling and guiding are self-motivated.

An avid horsewoman herself, competing in National Reined Cowhorse Association competitions, Karren knows the special requirements necessary for keeping horses that other realtors might overlook.
