An Outstanding Success for Equestrian Sport - The 2016 BC Summer Games, held July 22 to 24 this year, was a rollicking good time! This was one of the best BC Summer Games that Horse Council BC has ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Abbotsford was a terrific host city and all the volunteers made the four days of competition a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience for all involved.

Goodbye to an iconic western store - A landmark store has closed in downtown Calgary. Riley & McCormick sold western tack and western-style clothing since 1901, before Alberta was incorporated as a province in 1905. But Alberta’s struggling economy and the rising costs of doing business have taken their toll, and the iconic downtown store closed its doors at the end of August.

Horse Council BC (HCBC) former board member Barb Schmidt presented the HCBC 2015 Sherman Olson Lifetime Achievement Award to local horseman, Borge Olsen during the 2016 Canada Cup Vaulting Competition at Chilliwack Heritage Park on May 28th.

On Saturday June 18th, 2016 the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association is hosting a big 30th anniversary party – and you’re invited! CTRA invites everyone to join them in celebrating three decades of providing therapeutic riding and equine-based services for persons with disabilities in the Cowichan region. 

Horse Council BC (HCBC) Board member Debbie Rogal presented the HCBC 2015 Junior Athlete of the Year Award to Natalie Alves at the All Arabian Horse Association of BC’s (AAHABC) Annual Club Banquet at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC on May 6th.

Entry Deadline June 15th - Alberta’s first-ever equestrian drill team competition will be held this July in Hardisty, Alberta.

The Medicine Hat Ranch Horse Competition & Sale will be held on Friday, July 29th at the Rodeo Grounds in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Buyers and spectators are invited to come out and make this year’s event another great show and sale.
