In the second such tragedy in Ontario in as many weeks, at least a dozen horses have perished in a barn fire on Highway 89 west of Mount Forest.

More than forty Standardbred horses have perished in a devastating barn fire in Ontario. The blaze started just after 11 pm on January 4, 2016, at Classy Lane Stables Training Centre in Puslinch Township, Ontario, approximately 20 km southeast of Guelph.

A beloved member of the Toronto Police Force, the 18-year-old black Percheron gelding, Viscount, passed away on Christmas Day. Police Chief Mark Saunders announced the passing of the “beloved” police horse via Twitter, calling his death a “devastating loss.”

In Memoriam: J.C. Anderson (1930 - 2015) - J.C. Anderson built the private show jumping facility, Aspen Ridge, in Calgary, AB. Soon after, the scope of the private family farm had grown to holding international-level competitions, even hosting a selection trial for the 1986 World Championships. By 2001, Aspen Ridge had officially become Anderson Ranch, and regularly hosted international calibre competitions.

Judith Diane (Judy) Newbert passed away suddenly at her home on June 9, 2015 in Crossfield, Alberta at the age of 66. Judy is survived, and deeply missed, by her brothers Ken (Marlie) and Alan (Lucy), her niece Elyse (Colin), nephews Joel and Eric, and her best friend Gina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lilian and Kurt.
