There are dozens of Canadian Therapeutic Riding (CanTRA) programs across the country. Most are registered charities or not-for-profit organizations, and volunteers are very important in helping these programs to thrive and flourish. It is important to check that the program near you is a member of CanTRA, and therefore operating from an accredited facility with CanTRA certified instructors.

The 2022 55+ BC Games hosted by Greater Victoria were a huge success with approximately 70 participants for equestrian divisions. It was four jam-packed days of fun and friendly competition, with amazing volunteers to help make it all happen.

A record crowd of 10,000 people came through the turnstiles to attend the Can-Am All Breeds Equine Expo March 31-April 2, 2023. The event, which had been postponed for the last three years due to the pandemic, debuted at its new location at the Ancaster Fairgrounds in Ontario.

It has taken almost a year since my initial tour of Thompson Rivers University’s (TRU) Veterinary Technology facility for the equine simulator to arrive on campus. The $50,000 donation provided by the Equine Foundation of Canada (EFC) allowed not only the ordering of the life-sized horse model but led the way in obtaining more subsequent funding to a total of $120,000. As a result, the university has purchased a second equine simulator as well as a cow simulator for their students’ learning.

Ten-time Canadian Olympian Ian Millar of Perth, ON, was recognized as the inaugural recipient of the International Award during the Show Jumping Hall of Fame’s Induction Gala held on Sunday, March 5, in Wellington, FL.

Jonathon Millar of Millar Brooke Farm suffered a serious non-riding accident on March 12, 2023 in which he hit his head. A post on the Millar Brooke South Facebook page on March 13 reported: “He was quickly transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, where he had successful brain surgery to stop a bleed and relieve swelling.
