Horse Owners Work with Province to Improve Equine Veterinary Services

With 15,000 horses in New Brunswick, there are concerns about the future availability of veterinarian services. Horse owners were preparing for the worst after hearing rumours that the province wanted out of providing veterinary services.

But the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is asking the horse owners for input on how to make the service better, bridge the budget gap, how to get more veterinarians and whether the owners could pay more for the service. "We need to find more vets but we also need to be able and be prepared to pay for the services as well," said Deanna Phelan, president of the New Brunswick Equine Association.
