Last year Canadian Tracy Matkea, who winters in Arizona, was out for a trail ride when she fell off and hit her head. While she doesn’t remember much of the accident she knows her foot got stuck in the stirrup and she was dragged for about half a mile. She was out for the ride with her four-year-old dog Becky Jo, who stayed by her side for about ten minutes before heading home to get help. The dog was able to alert Tracy’s husband Butch, who followed Becky Jo on a four-wheeler back to the scene of the accident. Although she was conscious at that time she wasn’t coherent, and Butch was able to patch her up enough to get her home where she was airlifted to a Phoenix trauma hospital.
