A Shank Bit with a Tribal Twist
Contributed
Tom Balding introduces the bold new Powder River shank bit, featuring elegant artistry and ideal function.
The Powder River bit is a moderate, 17.5 centimetre shank that works well with all varieties of Tomʼs pure copper inlaid sweet iron mouthpieces. Its look is clean and modern, thanks to the enclosed stainless steel ball that holds the mouthpiece without pinching the horseʼs mouth - a Tom Balding innovation. Completing the shank are round headstall and rein rings.
Tom describes the look of the Powder River look as “tribal.” Its flowing curves share similarities with a design motif often seen in bold tattoo art. It is a look bound to appeal to individuals looking for something different and distinctive.
“It has lots of appeal,” says Tom of his new creation. “Thatʼs a priority for me. I like a stark, dramatic silhouette. The design should stand alone.”
It does. But of course, Tom couldnʼt help but add his signature decorative design - a row of bronze dots, graduated in size, on the shankʼs lever arm. Customers can also opt for a custom engraving pattern or other decoration.
For those looking for a distinctive show or working shank bit, thereʼs no better choice than the Tom Balding Powder River.
