EQUINE EDUCATION - OLDS COLLEGE EQUINE SCIENCE PROGRAM

- contributed

Olds College offers multiple majors through the two year Equine Science Diploma Program to continue to meet the needs of the horse industry by providing quality graduates skilled in equine business and event management, breeding and breeding farm management, horsemanship and horse training in both English and Western disciplines, and instruction and coaching.

Significant changes to the equine facilities at Olds College are nearly complete. We have finished construction on a second riding arena with accompanying stabling and outdoor penning, as well as the reconstruction and revitalization of the existing arena. We have almost completed the construction of our reproductive centre which consists of a new foaling barn as well as a reproductive barn. This enlargement of facilities allows the program to expand to meet the growing demands for our graduates. In addition to the four majors currently being offered, Business and Event Management, Production and Breeding, and English and Western Horsemanship, applicants will have a choice of a fifth major called Equestrian Coaching. Students in this major will focus on achieving all the required credentials to become an Equine Canada certified instructor in English and/or Western horsemanship, and, if desired, become a certified coach.
