Toronto CADORA Youth in the Spotlight Award

Sophie Dean-Potter, aged 13, is the winner of the 2011 TCY in the Spotlight Award!

This award, sponsored by Equestrian Factory Outlet, is intended to honour deserving youths for their outstanding contribution to the dressage community through volunteer work, their own accomplishments and successes, and overall exceptional attitude.

Sophie has been riding and taking lessons since she was five years old. After competing in eventing for years, Sophie took up dressage in the fall of 2010. She loves the challenge of dressage and has a tremendous amount of appreciation and respect for just how hard dressage riders must work to achieve their goals.

Sophie rides five or six days a week and would ride even more if only school and family time didn’t get in the way. She is extremely dedicated to the sport and constantly strives to better her riding.

Sophie’s current partner is a 16-year-old Welsh Cob cross named Obsidian. Obie is an absolute character who has a reputation for being cheeky. The pair had a very successful showing at the July 2011 Palgrave Dressage Festival, earning two first place ribbons in the FEI Pony division.
