CanTRA Presents “A Global Approach to Therapeutic Riding” -
Thursday, October 25, 2007
Posted by kathy

A Clinic By Mary Longden - Including Selecting and Training the Therapy Horse and Activities that Teach Riding Skills

Mary Longden of Australia is an international speaker, author of Teaching Disabled Riders and Coach With Courage, chair of the FRDI Sport and Recreation Committee, International Level Three coach, and International Paralympic Dressage judge.

Mary gives clinics around the world and has a wealth of information and experience to share. If you were unable to get to the CanTRA conference in British Columbia this past spring, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to benefit from her vast experience in therapeutic riding!

The clinic will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. It will be hosted by Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre, 6920 Concession 1, Puslinch, Ontario (near Guelph).
This clinic will provide ample opportunity for individual hands-on experience.

After November 1, registration for CanTRA members is $90, and $115 for non-members. Fees include handouts, lunch, and breaks.

Contact the CanTRA office at 519-767-0700 to register or download the flyer from our website at www.cantra.ca.

The Return of CanTRA’s Silent Bid Stallion Service Auction -
Thursday, October 25, 2007
Posted by kathy

CanTRA’s Silent Bid Stallion Service Auction will be entering its sixth year in January 2008. Since its start in 2003, the auction has raised in excess of $18,000 to help support CanTRA and therapeutic riding.

The auction works through the donation of stallion services, which are displayed online with details of the lineage and breeding. Interested parties place bids online using a unique bidder ID. Bidders receive an automated response via email providing information on whether their bid was received successfully or not. The current highest bid is displayed on the CanTRA website throughout the auction period. At the close of auction, those stallions with only one bid are sold to that bidder, whilst those stallions who have received more than one bid are entered into a “bidding war,” whereby bidders who have previously entered a bid on that stallion are given the opportunity to out-bid each other until only one bidder remains. Last year an exciting 18-hour bidding war took place. The winner of each stallion benefits from the possibility of a bargain stud fee while at the same time supporting a national charitable organization.

The auction offers stallion owners the chance of free advertising on our website and in various horse magazines as acknowledgment of their generous support for CanTRA. Stallion owners whose stallions sell also receive a charitable tax receipt for the amount of the regular stud fee.

Being a non-profit organization, CanTRA relies on its donations to help offer support to individuals and groups involved in therapeutic riding for the disabled across Canada. CanTRA supports riders, a growing list of certified instructors, and over 70 member centres across Canada by offering education, certification, insurance coverage, communication, and accreditation in therapeutic riding and instruction.

We would like to thank all those who have offered their stallion’s services in the past and those who are taking part in the 2008 auction. Without you the auction would not be the success it is. If you would like to offer your stallion’s services for the 2008 auction, please contact the CanTRA office for details and a stallion donation form. You can contact CanTRA at 519-767-0700 or by emailing ctra@golden.net.
