The SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion returns to Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC, for the third consecutive year, offering an increased total of $12,000 in bonus money to competitors throughout the 2013 show season.

Our demo team of mules at the Mane Event in Red Deer this spring were in fine form! Terry Aris and his well-trained 4 up of mules performed figure eights, tight circles and maneuvers while Les Sjorgren and his versatile mule Katie did spins and sliding stops to the delight of the crowds.

There is a considerable cost associated with caring for sick horses and it takes donations of all kinds to help provide each of the animals with a chance at a better life in a new home. On May 11, 2013, Rescue 100 Horses Foundation will host their 4th annual Dinner, Barn Dance and Auction to raise funds and awareness. They are asking your help in making this fun, family evening a success by donating an item, service, experience, or event ticket(s) for their live/silent auction.

The population of Mangalarga Marchador horses in Canada will almost double in April 2013 with the importation of four new Marchadors into BC from Flying Oaks Ranch of Kaw City, Oklahoma. The Mangalarga Marchador is the National Horse of Brazil, bred there for over 200 years. This versatile horse of ancient Iberian heritage is bred to be the ultimate saddle horse with beauty, stamina, soundness and a wonderful, comfortable, ground covering gait called the “marcha”.

The Canadian equestrian community is saddened to learn of the loss of Shannon Burwash, who passed away February 15, 2013. Shannon was born in Calgary, Alberta. She had many passions in life including family, accounting and horses.

Robyn Walker, 15, of Calgary, AB, was a member of the gold medal winning team and finished in eighth place individually at the 2012 Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Children's International Classics Final held in Valle de Bravo, MEX, January 30 to February 3, 2013.

From September 13 to 15, 2013, the Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships (CIEC) will be held in
Alberta for the first time outside of Quebec.

The North American Riders Group (NARG) has recognized Spruce Meadows as #1 in the sport of show jumping for a third year in a row. NARG consists of the sport’s top riders, trainers, coaches, owners and business interests representing Canada, Mexico and the United States.
