The Volvo CCI3* Bromont Three Day Event, The Todd Sandler Challenge, held June 6 to 9 in Bromont, Quebec, will celebrate its 27th anniversary in 2013. Ontario has asked the Horse Racing Industry Transition Panel to bring forward a long-term plan to implement recommendations from its final report.

The details of the 2013 Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP) were announced today by the Program Administrator of the Horse Improvement Program. Cooperatively developed with input from the Thoroughbred industry, the 2013 Program continues to provide significant incentives to breed and own horses in this province.

The Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association (OHRIA) is calling on Premier Kathleen Wynne to pause the OLG’s modernization process until after the Auditor General releases his report on the decisions surrounding the OLG modernization plan.

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair unveiled today its 2013 line-up, which will showcase world-class agricultural and equine competitions, as well as expanded entertainment and educational feature programming. The 2013 Royal runs Friday, November 1st to Sunday, November 10th.

The highly successful Slots at Racetracks Program ends in one week, and while OHRIA is pleased with deals for racing at three more Ontario race tracks, the industry association is still pushing for financial details from government on the promised long-term integration strategy.

Due to an overwhelming positive response, Equine Guelph has opened registration for a second offering of their eWorkshop on colic prevention. Over 80 students from local and international background gained valuable knowledge over the course of 2 weeks in March to combat the number one killer of horses (other than old age!) with Equine Guelph's new eWorkshop on colic prevention.

The date of the third annual Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships has been set and the Ontario Equestrian Federation is currently recruiting riders to represent the province from September 13 to 15, 2013, in Alberta. “This show brings together some of the best up-and-coming riders from across Canada,” says Dianne Graham, executive director of the Ontario Equestrian Federation. “We are currently searching for the best that Ontario has to offer to represent this province at the competition.”

Mill Creek Stables welcomes three-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion Yann Candele to its world-class facility in Cambridge, ON. Beginning this spring, Candele will base his business, Normandy Hills, at Mill Creek Stables. In addition to welcoming horses and riders for training, Candele will focus on young horse development and sales. 2008 Olympic Champion Eric Lamaze will support Candele by identifying quality prospects in Europe, while Mill Creek Stables owner Phil Henning will work with Candele to invest in sales horses.
