Star Power, the Dutch Warmblood gelding ridden by Ian Millar at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016. The sad news was announced on the TeamMillar Facebook page the following day:

“It is with the deepest sadness that we report to you that Star Power passed away yesterday. It is unjust that what should have been a long and well deserved retirement was cut so short. Star Power represented Canada, all of us at Millar Brooke and Team Works in such an impressive and successful manner for so long that he will not be forgotten.

RIP Star, you will be missed.”

The 15-year-old Dutch-bred gelding was purchased by Team Works syndicate in 2010 as a mount for Millar at the 2012 Olympic Games. On the Millar Brooke Farm website, Millar describes him as “A freak of nature. He has unbelievable athletic ability – he’s fast, agile, powerful. He can do things that most horses can’t. And he really really wants to leave the jumps up.”

In addition to the 2012 Olympic Games, Millar and Star Power represented their country at the 2011 Pan Am Games, and achieved numerous other international victories during his career.
