McLain Ward Shatters Kneecap
On Saturday, January 14, US show jumper and 2012 Olympic hopeful McLain Ward shattered his kneecap in a riding accident while competing at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida.
Ward’s mount, the mare Oh D’Eole, fell at a combination during their round in the $30,000 Surpass Grand Prix. Ward struck his left knee on the wing of a jump which resulted in a compound fracture of his patella. Team doctor Craig Ferrell operated on the knee. At this point it is uncertain how this will affect Ward’s plans for the Summer Olympics.
