HONOURABLE MENTION

Star
By Patricia Stewart, of Camrose, Alberta

The horse of my heart
Was a black named “Star”
A thoroughbred racer
And a charm from afar

She was quick to move
Real neat and alert
When she wanted to go
She would paw the dirt

Her stride was wide
Her back was straight
She never ever bucked
And she never overate

Her ears were pointed forward
Her tail and mane flowing-long
Her long legs were slim
And her muscles were strong

I rode Star often
When I was only eight
I loved her smooth body
And I liked her even gait

To this day I can feel the excitement
That I felt as I rode Star with ease
As she loped, ran and galloped
My long, red hair would blow the breeze

For sure Star was my heart’s delight
And I loved her with all my might!
