HONOURABLE
MENTION
The Ride
By Candace Shmyr, of Clearwater, BC
A scenic valley stretched out before me
Full of God’s awesome majesty
My closest companion and I connected
With nothing between us but the saddle
We wander the rolling hills
Saunter through a playful stream
Explore the wondrous forest
And in the openness of a meadow
We become one in a gallop full of spirit
My soul flies and I am free
Our hearts are connected in a bond
That only a cowgirl can have with her horse
He alone she trusts with her life
And he alone protects her
A beautiful song of solitude is heard on the hillside
As they ride toward home
The sun behind them and a cool breeze on her face
The slightest bit of sorrow in her heart
As she knows their ride must come to an end
If only a man could see into a cowgirl’s heart
But no man ever could for God made cowboys
The only ones with eyes to see her
